European Beach Ultimate Championships 2019 holdt i Praia da Rocha Portimão, Algarve, Portugal
2019 European Beach Ultimate Championships, in association with BULA (EBUC 2019) was held at Praia da Rocha in Portimão Portugal, from Monday 6th May to Saturday 11th May, 2019. Praia da Rocha can hold up to 30 full sized Beach Ultimate fields, and is therefore a perfect location for EBUC, the premier European event for Beach Ultimate. The event will be held every four years and is comprised of national European teams who are endorsed by their National Federations. The EBUC2019 has featured teams and players in the Men's, Women's, Mixed, Master Men's, Master Women's, Master Mixed and Grand Master divisions, with the possibility of Great Grand Master’s (over 50) participation for the first time.
The European Championship was played by 88 teams, with a total of about 1,400 players, in eight distinct categories, with Portugal playing four divisions: mixed masters, mixed (for men over 30 years) and great masters (+40) .
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), organised in partnership with BULA (Beach Ultimate) and the Portuguese Association of Ultimate and Disc Sports, will bring five-player teams to the front in the non-contact fair-play game.
"Beach Ultimate is still a relatively young sport in Portugal, so it is natural that it has not yet reached the level of other countries, but we believe that this European Championship will contribute to the affirmation of sport among the Portuguese, especially the younger ones" said Patrick van der Valk, founder of BULA, in 2000.
Like Van der Valk, the president of the Portuguese Association of Discs and Ultimate Sports, José Amoroso, believes that the European championship is an added value for the promotion and development of the sport that arrived in Portugal in 1995, with about of 250 practitioners and a beach league with 10 teams.
After finishing fourth in the World Beach Championship in 2019, Portugal achieved a similar result at the 2013 and 2015 European Championships.
